Welcome to Dota.
Where you do farming to gain money. Where you ambush to murder the enemy. Where you destroy entire buildings that fight back. If you don't know what Dota is, then by all means, let me Google that for you. Otherwise, sit back, and enjoy the ride, because its a wild one, filled with great things.
Being a Moba between so many others, Dota came from the original Warcraft 3 modded map, Defense of the Ancients. The macro purpose of this odd game is to destroy the enemy's "Ancient" or in more laymans gaming terms, their main building, standing smack-dab in the centre of dozens of fire and light spewing towers. And of course, there's the steady stream of enemy creeps that pour from the base and charge down the lane from both sides with the express purpose of killing each other. If this wasn't enough, there's five powerful heroes standing between you and that delectable ending goal.
The micro of this game is far beyond normal human understanding. Some newcomers cringe at Dota slang like 'ganking', 'pulling', 'rune-control' or 'Smoke'. All of these and more stems from years of playing Dota in a semi-competitive environment, and nobody expects you to know them from the start.
The game of Dota has been described in many ways throughout its years of existence. It is known as the game with one of the worst communities ever. It's also known for being heartless, thankless and torture when starting to play, unforgiving to the newer player that struggles in his first few games. But its also known as the largest game on Valve's servers player-wise. It's also known as one of the biggest e-sports titles currently in the market. And its known as a great game, with great lore, cool character design, and a free to play model.
So there you go. That's some info on Dota to get you started. If you're interested in learning more, or just want to read cool stuff about Dota and me, please stay tuned, as there are many more articles and random pointless banter to come.
